You Say Wiki, I Say Wiki

Words often have more than one meaning. Wiki is definitely one of those words, with different meanings for different people. Dan Woods explores wiki taxonomy in his JargonSpy column, published on Forbes.com.

When Dan wrote Wikis for Dummies, he identified several types of wikis:

  • Content-focused wikis (think Wikipedia)
  • Process-focused wikis (wikis for organizing a project or event)
  • Community-focused wikis (baseball fan wiki; the Emacs wiki)
  • Web site wikis (small companies and individuals find a wiki easier to set up and maintain than a web site, and many are free)

Have a look at Dan's JargonSpy column for more details.
