The JargonSpy Shares His 'Virtual Sense of Loss'

In his first JargonSpy column of 2010, Dan Woods, aka the JargonSpy, talks about the sense of attachment he feels with certain aspects of technology, such as the server he used for his company Evolved Media's wiki and workspace. Woods mentions that beginning in the new year, Evolved Media has moved from its server space on The Planet to Rackspace.

In the column, Woods compares losing physical objects to the idea of losing things we never see, such as servers and other items used to run cloud-based processes.

The article highlights an interesting idea, which is that tech people may actually become attached to things they never see, and that when that connection is lost, a new kind of mourning has to take place.
