Sharing Spaces

In his JargonSpy column this week, Dan Woods reveals three strategies for bringing the outside world into your company's processes.

As Woods explains the column, a shared space "is both a repository for documents (along with metadata about them) and a database for structured information describing the work."

The column goes on to describe the differences between private label domains and shared spaces. Two examples of shared-space environments are given: Assembla.com and Mindjet Connect.

Assembla.com is "a comprehensive implementation of the Scrum process, which works incredibly well for running large projects, like writing a book with many contributors."

And Mindjet Connect is a shareable space for mind maps.

Woods sums up the column by saying "the domain name is replacing the idea of the physical building as the corporate headquarters. Companies offering shared spaces would do well to recognize this and to offer for a premium if necessary, the ability to keep everything under one roof."

If you would like to learn more about these strategies, you can read the column here.
